The name Charleston describes many different places, events, destinations, cultures and areas in the low country of South Carolina.

Historic Downtown Charleston is commonly used to identify the neighborhoods below Calhoun Street. Included are the commercial areas of King Street and Meeting Street. The Market and the well heeled South of Broad residential homes.
There is the city of Charleston proper. Most people are aware the city of Charleston includes the peninsula from the Battery to about Mount Pleasant street up near the 1-26 interchange. Few visitors are aware that West Ashley, parts of James Island and Johns Island are also in the city limits. Charleston City limits meander almost 16 miles out from the center of the Peninsula. The Berkeley County towns of Daniel Island, Wando and parts of Cainhoy are also included in the City of Charleston.

"We're going To Charleston" is an often heard vacation shout. In reality most are headed to Sullivans Island or Isle of Palms to bask in the sun for vacation. Both places are identified as being Charleston due to their close proximity to the Holy City and the Charleston Harbor

"I'm coming in to Charleston Airport" (CHS). No you're not...You're landing in North Charleston, a separate city in and of itself. North Charleston is a large and diverse area. It gets a bad wrap sometiomes due to a small portion of the population committing crimes against themselves and their property. North Charleston is home to Boeing, Bosch and soon Sprinter Vans. AS these companies grow so will the values in the surrounding neighborhoods.
