What once was farm land is now the ever growing bustling neighborhood of Daniel Island SC . Daniel Island is in Berkeley County, (for now...), City of Charleston.
Building first started back in the mid 1990's for this planned urban development. The idea was to build a residential community that would span all socio-economic tiers in an urban, sidewalk, front porch oriented environment.
What is has turned into is a high end, highly priced island with limited shopping and eating choices.
It's a lifestyle which many treasure for it's "old Neighborhood feel" . Children ride bikes freely on the streets, there are miles of walking trails, special events in the parks. Family Circle Cup tennis stadium which is owned by the City of Charleston, hosts not only tennis but various music acts through out the year. Most notably Darius Rucker with Hootie and The Blowfish play each summer.
Daniel Island also hosts some of the best minor league soccer in the country at Blackbaud Stadium. One of the oldest sanctioned teams in the US, The Charleston Battery can be seen "Defending the Baud" in league and tournament play through out the season. An intimate venue makes for great soccer watching.
Blackbaud Stadium hosts many other events while the Battry are away including the Octoberfest and the Charleston Southern Ground Music & food festival in mid October.
