I think you have made the right decision (or are about to) by purchasing a home in the area. The next 5-10 years will see some tremendous growth in the area. Affordable housing for younger families, retirees and singles who want to live close to downtown but don't want to pay the higher prices associated with the area will find the Cainhoy Peninsula attractive.
The Schools
I visited the Cainhoy Elementary/Middle School last week and was quite impressed. A truly dedicated staff, modern telecommunications, brand new computer labs, spotless facilities all lend itself to a great learning enviornment.
In my opinion the schools reputation and state report card do not portray what is happening inside. It is the people inside the school that makes the difference. Before you make your decision on where to send your children this year, you owe it to yourself, your kids and your community to visit the school, speak with the principal and his staff and tour the grounds. You will be surprised, I was.

If you are looking for an honest opinion of what your home is worth or why it is not selling, I promise that's what you will get. No hard selling here, I have turned down listings in the past because it's just not the right "fit" or the owners refused to accept the truth about what their home was truly worth in todays market.
It is unfortunate that the market values slowed over the past year and many people refinanced thinking it would continue to rise. But take solace in the fact that it will rise again. Don't panic, time will heal all wounds. Keep your payments up and your property maintained during the down time. Be ready to sell when the market does change.
GOALS
My short term goal is to get to know my neighbors and community. My long term goal is to help all the residents in the area build value in their homes by actively promoting the area, supporting our school system (Cainhoy Elementary/Middle School), and engaging the business community to do the same.
